Prince Harry and Prince William’s relationship has been strained since Harry stepped down as a royal in 2020 and moved to the US with his wife and children. Public interviews, a Netflix documentary and Harry’s explosive memoir have only deepened the rift between the brothers.

The new documentary “Harry: The Lost Prince” by filmmaker Ulrike Grunewald aired in Germany on December 3, chronicling Harry and Meghan’s life in California. Asked whether the film would affect Harry’s current relationship with the Royal Family, expert Duncan Larcombe told the Mirror:Â “It’s hard to say whether the documentary will have an impact on Harry’s relationship with the Royal Family, because there are signs that things may be thawing.”
Larcombe said it was a good sign that Harry and Meghan had kept quiet since the release of their memoir ‘Spare’ in January 2023. He added:Â “Since Harry’s book ‘Spare’ came out in January, things have been relatively quiet and he has kept quiet. Since then, Harry has met his father – albeit very briefly. It would be a shame if this documentary pushed back any potential thaw in the relationship.”

Prince Harry last saw his father in February 2024 after King Charles made his cancer diagnosis public. Harry immediately flew to the UK to visit his father, but only spent a short time with him at Clarence House before returning to the US.
This summer, both princes attended the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, at St Mary’s Church in Norfolk. It marked the brothers’ last public appearance since his own private funeral. Lord Fellowes, Princess Diana’s brother-in-law and Queen Elizabeth II’s press secretary for 13 years, died on July 29 aged 82. Although a source close to the family confirmed both princes were present, a local resident said they did not see the brothers speaking to each other and “kept their distance” throughout the service. It had been reported that Harry would not be travelling to the UK for the funeral.
