LONDON — Prince Harry struggled to hold back his excitement. Standing in front of a news camera to announce the birth of his son, he repeatedly rubbed his hands together, bounced on his toes, and couldn’t help but grin from ear to ear.
“It’s been the most incredible experience I could ever imagine,” he said, standing in front of the stables at Windsor Castle, with two black horses gently nodding behind him.
“How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension, and we’re both absolutely thrilled,” he added, speaking about his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex. He described the duchess as “amazing,” the birth as “amazing,” and the public’s love and support as “amazing.” As he prepared to leave, so overwhelmed with joy and sleep deprivation, he seemed to thank the horses.
“This little one is absolutely adorable, and I’m just over the moon,” he said with a grin.

He is also the first multiracial baby in recent British royal history, instantly becoming a symbol in a nation where multiracial children are the fastest-growing ethnic group.
“We’ve been waiting for him,” said Carol Lengolo, 38, who moved to Britain from South Africa and is raising a son and daughter in southeast London. She mentioned that she had set up several notifications so the family would be alerted the moment the baby was born. When the news came in at 2:39 p.m., they erupted in excitement, screaming and rushing to the television.
“We feel like Meghan is one of our own, so we’re here to support her,” she shared. “We can’t wait to see what he looks like.”
It remains uncertain whether the newborn, who is behind Harry in the line of succession, will be granted a royal title, similar to those given to the three children of Prince William, Harry’s older brother, and his wife, Catherine.
