The royal family may reportedly be “living in fear” as new claims about Prince Andrew continue to surface amid more scandal, this time in a new Channel 5 documentary aired at the weekend.

Titled Andrew & Fergie: The Duke and Duchess of Excess, the programme aired just days after the release of Andrew Lownie’s new bombshell biography, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York.

The documentary and book both delved into Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s controversial lifestyles, financial issues, and most troubling of all, Andrew’s alleged involvement in international scandal.

Author and historian Andrew Lownie featured prominently in the documentary, painting a damning portrait of the Duke of York.

Any new allegations about Andrew may have reportedly stirred deep concern among royal circles.

“Who knows what could come out?” said journalist Richard Eden in the documentary. “I think the royal family still lives in fear, frankly, of what could come out.”

It comes as Lownie spoke about Andrew’s royal future to Woman’s Day, especially when Prince William one day becomes king.

He said: “William will do it alone [get rid of Prince Andrew] and probably get rid of Harry as well. Andrew knows he will receive no favours once William is king. His ambitions are now centred on his daughters becoming working royals.”

Lownie didn’t hold back when describing Andrew and Sarah’s lifestyle. He labelled the couple “greedy” and criticised their alleged lavish spending.

Prince Andrew stepped down from public duties in 2019 after his disastrous Newsnight interview regarding his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He also addressed sexual assault allegations against him, which he has always denied.

In 2022, as he faced a US civil lawsuit over the allegations, Andrew also relinquished the use of his “His Royal Highness” title and has only appeared at private family events since. In February of 2022, the case was settled out of court.

Despite the scandal, Andrew made a rare appearance earlier this year at the royals’ Easter Sunday service at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, walking alongside King Charles and other senior royals. This move was met with criticism.

It has also been alleged that the king has attempted to “dissociate” publicly from his younger brother.

However, Andrew has quietly edged back into certain royal circles.

In June, Andrew attended a private luncheon held during the Order of the Garter ceremony at Windsor Castle. However, he was absent from the public procession.

A royal insider told Express that the arrangement represented a “compromise by both sides”.

“He won’t participate in the procession. But he has been invited to the lunch and investiture,” they explained.
