It has been more than seven years since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding. Despite divorce rumors, the couple’s affection toward one another has remained unchanged. Commenting on Markle’s admiration for her husband, a royal expert has claimed that she must be supportive of Harry in his bid to reconcile with his father, King Charles, if that is giving him happiness. Additionally, the expert pointed out how the Duchess once shared a close bond with her father-in-law before their royal exit.
As Harry and Charles reportedly have taken the first step toward a reunion with their respective aides’ meeting recently in London, many have wondered where Markle stands. The Duchess has not addressed her husband’s public plea to reconcile with his family. However, BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond recently defended Markle, claiming that she must be on board with the reunion plan. In a conversation with The Mirror, Bond explained, “It’s important to remember that the King and Meghan had a warm and affectionate relationship at the start. Harry wrote about how jovial and animated his father was when they used to visit him, for example, talking to Meghan about music.”
She also highlighted how Charles walked his American daughter-in-law down the aisle at her wedding in the absence of her father. The expert explained, “Of course, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then, and emotions are still running high. But my belief is that Meghan loves Harry and wants him to be happy.” She added, “And if a reconciliation with his father, which he has said he wants, will make him happy, then I think Meghan would be supportive.”Bond further opined that part of the reason is also because Markle would want her two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to have a bond with their grandfather. The expert stressed that the monarch, too, would be ‘delighted’ to know his grandchildren. “He has already missed so much of their young lives, and children grow up so quickly.”
Given Markle was previously accused of using her connection to the royal family to make money, when asked about the impact of the father-son reunion on Markle’s lifestyle brand, As Ever, Bond said, “I don’t see that she is doing anything commercially that is distasteful or problematic. After all, the King sells jams and a wide range of products, admittedly only for charity.” The expert, however, warned, “As long as she doesn’t do anything that would cause embarrassment for the royal family, I don’t see any difficulties.”
While Markle may be on board with the family reunion, Bond claimed that Prince William is not. The BBC correspondent argued that the Prince of Wales may forget his brother’s comments on their rivalry, but he may never forgive him for taking multiple jibes at his wife, Kate Middleton. According to Fox News, William was left out of the recent aides’ meeting. While he is said to have been aware of the summit, he was not willing to be a part of it.
