Snow gathered quietly across the palace courtyard, dusting the stone steps in winter white. Inside, the mood felt nothing like Christmas.
A sealed envelope had arrived — unmarked, guarded, placed directly on Prince William’s desk.
On the front, only three words were written:

He hesitated before opening it.
For months, whispers had circled corridors and back offices — rumors, speculation, half-truths that no one dared repeat out loud. And now, all of it had landed in front of him in cold, official ink.

Archie.

The room fell silent as he read.
Outside, preparations for the holidays had already begun: lights strung across railings, trees delivered, choirs rehearsing carols that spoke of peace and certainty. But inside the Prince’s study, certainty had just broken.

William leaned back, closing his eyes.
