ollowing the funeral of the Duchess of Kent, many royal observers have pointed out Princess Kate Middleton’s sweet gesture to the late Queen Elizabeth.

Unsurprisingly, as at this time of year in 2022, September 19 2022 to be specific, the royal family were paying their respects to Queen Elizabeth II.

On this day in 2022, Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral service was held at Westminster Abbey.

The service, the first state funeral held in Britain since Winston Churchill’s in 1965, was followed by a procession to Wellington Arch which featured around 3,000 military personnel.

Approximately one million people in central London watched on and members of the royal family were at the centre of the ceremony, dressed in black and visibly cloaked in grief.

Three years on, the royals lost another member of The Firm in September, Katharine, The Duchess of Kent.

The Duchess of Kent died peacefully at Kensington Palace on September 4, according to reports.

She was 92 years old at the time of her death. Thus, making the oldest member of the royal family at the time.

The royals gathered at Westminster Cathedral on September 16 where a catholic funeral service took place, to lay the late duchess to rest.

It was here that Kate Middleton appeared to also pay tribute to Prince William’s late grandmother.

Princess Kate appeared to recycle pieces from her wardrobe from the occasion. She sported a chic, black Catherine Walker coat dress – the same dress that she wore at Prince Philip’s funeral.

She paired the elegant ensemble with sheer black tights and Gianvito Rossi heels.

Kate also complemented the look with a quilted Chanel handbag and a classy pillbox hat from Jane Taylor.

The hat in question features a satin bow and a birdcage veil and was previously worn by the princess at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral, where Kate sported the headwear as she followed the procession of Her Majesty’s coffin on September 19, 2022.

That wasn’t the only nod to Queen Elizabeth that the Princess of Wales gave this week.

She also wore the Japanese Pearl choker necklace, made up of four-strands of pearls and featuring a diamond clasp.

The pearls had once been given to Queen Elizabeth during her first state visit to Japan in 1975. They were later made into the necklace by the court jeweller, Garrard.

The necklace had belonged to the queen, but was often rocked by Kate’s late mother-in-law, Princess Diana.

Kate has previously worn the choker to both Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s funerals and to a celebration of Elizabeth and Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary in 2017.

The five-ring stack features her famous sapphire engagement ring and four bands.

One of the bands appears to feature dark gems and diamonds and first appeared in the September 2024 video in which Kate announced she had completed chemotherapy treatment.

Kate’s Welsh gold wedding band is also amongst the stack. As well as a  white gold and diamond Annoushka ring that many think was a gift from William to Kate after the birth of George, in 2013.

The newest addition appears to be a thin band with smaller diamonds, but the meaning of it is yet to be disclosed.
