On June 14, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s daughter joined the royal family in honoring King Charles at Trooping the Colour, the annual parade celebrating the monarch’s public birthday. Princess Charlotte, 10, coordinated with her mom in an aqua dress, and she completed her look with a meaningful brooch.

Charlotte sported a diamond horseshoe brooch, which she previously wore at Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in September 2022. PEOPLE exclusively revealed at the time that the accessory was a gift from the history-making monarch to her great-granddaughter and previously belonged to Queen Elizabeth’s mother (who also called Queen Elizabeth and was known as the Queen Mother when her daughter acceded to the throne to avoid confusion).

The brooch honored Queen Elizabeth’s love of horses, and Princess Charlotte seems to have followed in her footsteps. It was previously revealed that Charlotte was taking riding lessons and had a strong interest in the animals. After all, it’s in her blood — and both Queen Elizabeth’s daughter Princess Anne and granddaughter Zara Tindall have competed in equestrian events in the Olympics.

Princess Kate previously revealed that Queen Elizabeth had a special bond with Princess Charlotte from the start. In ITV’s 2016 documentary The Queen at Ninety, Kate revealed, “The Queen was really thrilled that it was a little girl, and I think as soon as we came back here to Kensington, she was one of our first visitors here.”

Princess Charlotte’s look at Trooping the Colour also included her go-to hairstyle: two braids with a middle part pulled back into a half-updo.

Princess Charlotte rode in a horse-drawn carriage through the streets of London for Trooping the Colour, sitting beside her mom while her brothers, Prince George and Prince Louis, faced them on the other side of the coach. Meanwhile, their father, Prince William, rode on horseback for the procession.

Princess Charlotte is known for perfecting protocol during royal events — and making sure her brothers do the same!

Last year at Trooping the Colour, the young princess was spotted telling Prince Louis to “stop” when he cheekily danced around to the band’s music. Later, during the family’s appearance on the Buckingham Palace balcony, she was seen telling her little brother how to hold his arms as the national anthem played.

The princess kept it on in the second picture, which was posted in black and white, which showed George, Charlotte and Louis piled up on William, 42, as they all laughed on the ground.

The scarf looked oversized on Charlotte and fell past her knees, a hint that it was borrowed from one of her parents!

Princess Kate, 43, wore a similar plaid scarf with the same colors for Christmas at Sandringham in December 2024, while Prince William has previously slipped on scarves at chilly engagements.

In another fun touch, the caption of the carousel of William’s Father’s Day tribute was styled like a social media takeover from Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“Happy Father’s Day, Papa (before and after!) We love you! G, C & L ,” the message said.
