Prince William Shocks Royal Watchers by Changing Titles for Duchess Sophie’s Children
In a move that has taken royal watchers by surprise, Prince William has reportedly initiated a change in the royal titles of Duchess Sophie’s children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex. The decision comes as part of a broader effort to modernize the monarchy and reflect a more streamlined and relevant royal family for the 21st century.
According to royal sources close to the matter, the Prince of Wales is said to have been working quietly behind the scenes to revisit the titles and responsibilities of various members of the extended royal family. The most notable change reportedly affects the children of Prince Edward and Duchess Sophie (formerly the Countess of Wessex, now the Duchess of Edinburgh), who have traditionally lived relatively low-profile lives compared to their cousins.
Historically, Lady Louise and James were entitled to use the style of “Her Royal Highness” and “His Royal Highness” as grandchildren of the monarch through the male line.
