The Prince and Princess of Wales have passed their passion for sports onto their three children
Princess Charlotte is taking her athletic talents to the track, her dad Prince William just revealed.
The Prince of Wales, 42, hosted an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on May 13, where he honored British middle-distance runner Keely Hodgkinson, who won a gold medal at the Paris Olympic Games last year. Hodgkinson shared what she spoke about with Prince William, saying the conversation included his 10-year-old daughter with Kate Middleton.
“The Prince told me his daughter is doing the 400 metres at the minute and the hurdles and that she did watch me in Paris,” the athlete said, according to The Telegraph.
“He told me that he remembers me winning and that he wished he could be there to see it himself,” she added.
Princess Charlotte’s athletic abilities come as no surprise. Prince William and Princess Kate are both passionate about sports, and they’ve often spoken about passing that interest down to their three children: Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, 7.
During a 2023 appearance on The Good, The Bad & The Rugby podcast (hosted by Mike Tindall, a former rugby union player and the husband of William’s cousin Zara Tindall), Kate said that Charlotte plays rugby and soccer, both of which “weren’t school sports when I was growing up.”
“Charlotte’s playing both the sports now, and it’s really good to see youngsters, particularly girls, playing these types of sports now,” she shared.

William and Kate even admitted that their family isn’t afraid of some friendly competition.
“What I think is really interesting is that they are all obviously very different temperaments,” Princess Kate said of her kids, adding that “they are growing and trying out different sports.”
“They’re obviously still really young,” she continued. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that grows and develops.”
While Princess Charlotte is excelling on the track, she previously revealed that another sport was her favorite. The young royal joined her parents at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where she said she had a particular interest in gymnastics.
