SAD NEWS: Princess Beatrice’s daughter Sienna has unusual title – but Princess Eugenie’s sons don’t, It turns out the title is

Princess Beatrice’s daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, holds a rather unusual distinction within the royal family — she has a noble title through her father’s aristocratic Italian lineage, while her cousins, the sons of Princess Eugenie, do not carry any titles at all.

Sienna was born in September 2021 to Princess Beatrice and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi. While she does not hold a royal title granted by the British monarchy, Sienna is technically a “Nobile Donna” (which translates to “Noble Woman”) due to her father’s aristocratic heritage. Edoardo is a count by Italian nobility, and as such, his children are entitled to carry on those hereditary titles, although Italy no longer officially recognizes nobility in its legal system. Nevertheless, the tradition still holds cultural value, and it adds a unique layer to Sienna’s identity. Thus, while she’s not styled as “Princess” under British royal customs, she carries a noble background that links her to European aristocracy.

In contrast, Princess Eugenie’s two sons — August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, born in 2021, and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, born in 2023 — do not have titles at all. This difference primarily stems from the fact that their father, Jack Brooksbank, is a commoner and does not come from nobility or aristocracy. Furthermore, the British royal family has generally taken a more modern approach in recent years, choosing not to grant titles to those further removed from the line of succession. Since neither Beatrice nor Eugenie are working royals, and both occupy more private roles in society, their children are being raised with more ordinary lives outside the public spotlight.

Another reason Sienna’s situation is unique is because the British monarchy traditionally only passes titles through the male line. That means unless the reigning monarch decides to issue special letters patent, titles are not automatically given to children through their mothers. So even though Beatrice and Eugenie are both princesses, their children are not automatically princes or princesses. This same rule applied when Princess Anne’s children, Peter and Zara, were not given royal titles despite being grandchildren of Queen Elizabeth II — because they were born to a daughter, not a son, of the monarch.

Princess Beatrice and Edoardo appear to have embraced a blend of tradition and modernity. While they are not raising Sienna with an active royal title, the nod to her Italian nobility adds a meaningful, if unconventional, heritage. It also reflects a broader shift in the royal family — one that balances history with the desire to offer the next generation a more private and grounded upbringing.

Ultimately, the contrast between Sienna’s inherited noble identity and the untitled status of Eugenie’s children highlights how varied and evolving royal customs can be, especially as the family adapts to a changing world.
