Kate Middleton Wore Princess Diana’s Pearl and Diamond Earrings

Kate Middleton and Prince William made a glamorous appearance at the BAFTAs in London. The event, which is hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, honors the standout filmmakers and movies of the year.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge looked every bit like movie stars for the event, with Will wearing a dapper tux and Kate in a white, one-shoulder gown by Alexander McQueen. Eagle eye royal fans on Twitter quickly noted that Kate also wore a pair of pearl and diamond earrings that once belonged to her late mother-in-law Princess Diana to complete her ethereal look.

The diamond and South Sea pearl dangle earrings were a favorite of Diana’s. The late princess wore the earrings a number of times through the years, including in New York back in 1995 and during a 1996 trip to Sydney as well.

At times, so also changed the setting to style them differently.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has worn a stunning piece of jewelry from Diana’s personal collection. Just last month, Kate chose a pair of sapphire earrings on a visit to Scotland that were originally part of a wedding gift given to Diana.

The earrings perfectly matched one of Diana’s most well-known pieces of jewelry: the 12-carat oval sapphire engagement ring chosen by Prince Charles for their engagement in 1981. After their divorce and Diana’s death, Prince William famously proposed to Kate with the ring in 2010.

Meghan Markle’s engagement ring also has a touching connection to her late mother-in-law. Prince Harry designed the ring to feature a gorgeous center stone sourced from Botswana flanked by two diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.
