Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey served up a perfect display of manners as he joined Prince William and Kate Middleton in the Royal Box at Wimbledon yesterday.
The Magic Mike actor, 55, thrilled tennis fans on Sunday (July 13) as he appeared in SW19 with his wife Camila Alves to watch the Men’s Singles Final. He also ended up being seated very near to Princess Kate and Princess Charlotte.

Why was Matthew McConaughey at Wimbledon?
Celebrities attending Wimbledon is not a new development. For years, Wimbledon was associated with tennis diehard famous fans such as Cliff Richard. But nowadays megastars from all over the world are likely to be keen to be seen in the Royal Box.
This year’s event alone saw the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Jodie Comer, Nicole Kidman, and Keira Knightley seated in Centre Court.
But one act performed by Matthew during the last day of the tournament particularly stood out to some observers, with messages of delight over it flowing across social media.

Fans react to Prince William and Kate Middleton interaction
The moment involving Matthew that came in for attention occurred as the Waleses took their seats.
Matthew rose to welcome the family, applauding them as they moved along the row. This prompted one impressed fan to post a clip of the gesture on X, and hail the actor as “a lovely southern gentleman”.
“He’s a gentleman,” agreed one among many users replying to the post. “Manners make a (gentle)man they say,” quipped someone else.
A third respondent maintained: “Matthew was raised right. Always something I have always admired.” Meanwhile, another fan remarked they were not surprised, writing: “McConaughey surely respects everyone he encounters.”
Others noted how the interaction was “lovely to see”, claiming Matthew is “one of Hollywood’s good people… there’s not many”
“Matthew has always been a class act,” added another admirer.
“Matthew has always been a class act.
Meanwhile, a fan of Princess Kate made it clear Prince William’s wife deserves nothing less.
“She’s looking lovely,” they posted. “And the applause for her is well deserved. People genuinely wish her well, after what she’s been through.”
However, amid the positive posts, not everyone agreed with Matthew’s approach.
“Surely should be the other way around and they should be applauding Matthew McConaughey?” one user joked.
“When everyone else stands up and applauds, and you stand up and applaud, does that really make you a southern gentleman or a follower?” reasoned another.
Additionally, someone else chipped in: “Why? Did they play today?”
